Calligraphy Series

Calligraphy, a type of visual art is the art of writing which I have been fascinated with for a long time and have created many calligraphic works in the Islamic style.

Islamic calligraphy is especially revered amongst the Islamic arts since it was the primary means for the preservation of the Quran. Figurative art is considered idolatrous which let to calligraphy becoming the main method of artistic expression in Islamic cultures.

For the first time, I have attempted “OM” in calligraphy as I found “OM” to be not a word but a powerful intonation which like music, transcends the barriers of age, race and culture.

It is believed to be the basic sound and to contain all other sounds. There is harmony, peace and bliss in this simple but deeply philosophical mantra. “OM” represents the self and it is a prayer in itself which connects Man and God.

Gods and Goddesses Series

Goddess worship is an integral part of Hinduism where the feminine is highly active. The word 'Goddess' in Hinduism denotes Shakti which means power and energy.

I have painted the Goddess Lakshmi a number of times as she symbolizes the complete female principle. She represents power, knowledge, fortune and beauty.

All goddesses of the Hindu Pantheon are special forms of the divine mother - Shakti.
